Agree | Disagree Subject: Industry trade show language dictionary

We had the following gem shared with the SNEWS team during Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2008 -- Showmance: temporary, short-lived liaison instigated by seasonal anticipation, influx of non-committal individuals, hotel rooms and copious amounts of free alcohol.

Indeed! Many a once untarnished character has been besmirched by a showmance indiscretion.

Have more trade show lingo we need to add? We'd love to hear them...chime in!

a "Blier". a Buyer who knows his shop is going out of business, has no intention of buying anything, but attends OR and sells you into taking him out to dinner to talk about doing big business together.....

Bliar. Awesome. Never heard that one.

Anyway...

Drive-by: a non-appointment with someone you'd rather not book a time with.

Green zones: Massive booths that are totally walled in and have one entry point. Usage: "Man, that Grammici booth is a total green zone."

"Looks great, why don't you send me a sample?" means "That's cool but I'd never pay wholesale, much less retail."
