Subject: A new take on connecting with nature

Yeah, sitting in your car, staring longingly at your dash-mounted GPS from Radio Shack with your honey by your side sure says connected with nature to us...how about you?

Subject: Outdoors Advertising for the Mass Market

First impression: for the masses, this ad works--'take a drive with your belle/beau with GPS Radio Shack helping you find and connect with nature'. Problem is, for most people who read SNEWS, we are much more connected to the outdoors and the ad is an afront, merely saying--' hey, I am an outdoor guy, I sit in my carbon-burning ragtop, inactively gazing at the foliage, without the least bit of thought given to foot-powering in from the trailhead, but rather lead-footing it in from the turnpike!'; And so it goes...companies that choose to utilize an outdoor motif in their ad campaigns but in so doing, just make us laugh not so much at the message, but rather the ridiculous manner in which the message is delivered! Hike on I say, and while your at it, have you calculated your carbon footprint lately?! Go green!! Dave DePo.

Subject: It could be worse...

I visited a Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoor Festival and saw something that was very disturbing...a young man, maybe 8 years old, playing a fishing video game. There were within 50 yards at least two ponds where he could actually wet a line. Shame on the manufacturer for bringing it (it was Mercury Marine if I recall correctly), shame on the parent for allowing it.

The point is -- at least they're outside. Baby steps to the bus...
