OIA Outdoor University: Marketing your locally owned business

Posted: 10/11/2010 In Category(s): News & Features :: Outdoor Headlines, Retail College :: Outdoor University Campus

On Wednesday, October 13, Rod and Sharon Johnson, owners of Midwest Mountaineering, will present the Outdoor University webinar, “Marketing Your Locally Owned Business.” During the educational workshop, attendees will learn about the techniques used by Rod and Sharon to market their store, what worked and what didn’t, and how they recommend personalizing customer interactions to successfully increase sales. All Outdoor University webinar classrooms are scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. MST.

Started over 40 years ago in Rod’s kitchen and named Retailer of the Year in the SNEWS/Backpacker Retailer of the Year Awards
last January, Midwest Mountaineering's sales and profits have shown yearly increases during the current recession. The Johnsons said they feel this is due to providing a fun shopping experience and being a locally owned business, and they’re planning to share their insights and tactics with others who face similar challenges.

Programs by the Outdoor University, an affiliate of the SNEWS Retail College, are free to all OIA members and SNEWS Retail College subscribers, and $99 otherwise. To receive your SNEWS subscriber free registration form, send an email to oureg@snewsnet.com.
