Industry News Release Written By: Coral Darby

Red Wing, MN – After six grueling stages, 115 miles of running and 19 hours on the trail, Bryan Dayton and Krissy Moehl of Team Vasque were the first place finishers in the open-mixed category at the 4th Annual 2010 GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run.

This was Dayton and Moehl’s first time participating in the race and also their first time running as a team. Their official winning time was 19 hours, 2 minutes and 16 seconds, putting them a full 12 minutes ahead of the second place team, Frontrunners West Shore, from Canada.

“We are both sponsored by Vasque, but we have different running specialties,” says Moehl, who usually focuses on 50- to 100-mile races as compared to Dayton’s marathon and shorter distances. “Bryan was an amazing running partner and we became a solid team.”

The GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run begins in Buena Vista, CO, and takes runners on six grueling, yet stunning stages through sandy high desert, magical aspen glades, stately pine forests, historical ghost towns, frigid creek crossings and over exposed 12,000+ foot passes ending at Beaver Creek ski resort. Team Vasque was one of 18 teams who finished the race with only one team dropping out due to injuries.

Dayton, who lives in Boulder, CO, and spends most of his time running and skiing the Colorado Rockies, excelled on the uphills. Moehl, who resides in Seattle, WA, is an accomplished long distance runner who dominates on the downhills.

“After Stage 1, we decided to use a tow system on the uphills,” says Dayton. “We were running at over 8000 feet in altitude and implementing the tow let us take advantage of the other’s strengths and bring home a win.”

Team Vasque crossed the Stage 6 finish line hand in hand with Team Frontrunners West Shore where all teams celebrated their efforts on the winner’s podium.

“We’re looking forward to Stage 7 (aka the post race party) and I might even take a few days off from running,” said Dayton after the race.

Dayton and Moehl both ran in the Vasque Transistors for the entire race. To learn more about these athletes and Vasque Footwear, please visit www.vasque.com.
