Industry News Release Written By: Kara Armano

Busto Arisizio, Italy) – Nextec srl, parent company of OutDry, announces that Calzaturificio SCARPA sPa has adopted OutDry waterproof/breathable technology in its Spring 2011 line of technical mountaineering footwear. The SCARPA Phantom collection featuring OutDry will be displayed during the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow in Salt Lake City at booth number 3001.

“We are extremely excited to announce this partnership with a world-renowned brand and market leader such as SCARPA,” comments Matteo Morlacchi, co-founder of OutDry. “Mountaineers the world over respect SCARPA boots for their commitment to highly technical products that perform in all conditions, and with the utilization of OutDry, these athletes will gain even more protection and performance.”

Renowned alpinist and speed climbing record-holder, Ueli Steck, worked closely on the development of the Phantom project. Steck, who is a tester and R&D advisor for both SCARPA and OutDry, wanted a mountain boot with improved waterproofness, especially to reduce shoe weight while climbing in wet snow conditions.

“We are convinced that this new cooperation is giving SCARPA the opportunity to use leading technology for our technical mountaineering footwear,” comments Sandro Parisotto, Calzaturificio SCARPA sPa President.

OutDry uses three-dimensional laminating technology to adhere a waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane to the inside of the outer most layer of shoes, boots, and gloves. Outdry’s technology permanently bonds to the shoe or glove creating flawless fit with no folds, seams or seam-sealing tape. The system creates a more waterproof finished product, reduces “wet weight” and improves dexterity.

Three SCARPA styles including the Phantom 6000, Phantom Guide and Phantom Ultra will utilize OutDry’s membrane technology by having the waterproof/breathable membrane directly laminated to the inner side of the K-tech boot upper. One major benefit of using OutDry in theses boots is that the technology can be used with Primaloft® for a combination of waterproof/breathable protection and superior insulation.
