Timex, a leader in outdoor and sports performance timepieces, today unveiled the Timex® Ironman® Global Trainer™ Bodylink® System, a GPS-enabled competitive training tool designed for passionate athletes worldwide.

The all-in-one wrist device is Timex’s latest innovation designed for elite performance, as the iconic watch brand continues to expand its fitness technology offerings across all levels of athletic training.

The Global Trainer system boasts real-time speed, pace and distance data featuring SiRFstar GPS and ANT+ wireless technologies. In addition to its intuitive Performance and Multisport modes for training and events, it syncs with the athlete’s computer to download detailed workout and route information to online software powered by TrainingPeaks™. The Global Trainer system is compatible with Timex heart rate and bike speed/cadence sensors, and it can display data from third-party bike power meters using ANT+ technology.

“The Timex Ironman Global Trainer Bodylink System is the ultimate training tool for elite athletes, and the only GPS-enabled watch worthy of the Timex Ironman name,” said Heberto Calves, Vice President of Marketing at Timex. “It is technologically advanced for modern athletes, but does not sacrifice the reliability, ease-of-use and affordability the market has come to expect from Timex.”

The remarkably durable wristwatch is designed specifically for strenuous multisport use, boasting a 15-hour rechargeable battery life and water resistance to 50 meters. Its customizable display provides up to four critical performance metrics simultaneously, letting athletes conveniently monitor a wealth of data during workouts.

The integrated GPS feature precisely calculates speed, pace and distance while measuring location and altitude with ascent/descent distances and rates. Requiring no calibration, the device records up to 100 location waypoints, allowing the user to track back and create routes, and recalls up to 50 custom routes for pace tracking.

The device boasts a 20-workout memory offering dated summaries of up to 1,000 laps, chronograph and interval timer functions, as well as a performance pacer to help the user meet his or her finish-time goal. The product also includes a hands-free option that automatically starts and stops data capture, as well as a multisport event mode to track and record activity-specific data, including transitions, in a user-defined sequence.

In addition to a robust online training calendar and log, the collection’s computer compatibility allows users to download workout and route data, upload customized user settings to the watch, and conveniently recharge the battery via the custom USB cable. An AC adaptor is provided for recharging away from the computer.

The Timex Ironman Global Trainer Bodylink System will be available for purchase at sports specialty retailers around the world and on TimexIronman.com in September 2010, priced from $249.95 to $299.95.

Recently Timex introduced the Timex® Ironman® Sleek™ 150-Lap watch with TapScreen™ Technology, a revolutionary collection of precision sports timing instruments that conveniently responds to an athlete’s touch. The innovative collection’s three signature elements – TapScreen technology, target time pacer, and labeled interval timers – are designed to enhance performance by allowing athletes to focus less on managing their sports watch during workouts.

Timex’s leadership in the field of performance sports and fitness products has been evident for years via its sponsorship of the Ironman Triathlon event series, the ING New York City Marathon and the Virgin London Marathon, among other major events.
