nuun, an expert in active hydration, and Mountain Madness, a leading mountain adventure guide travel service and mountaineering school, have teamed up to provide optimal hydration at elevation. As part of the collaboration, the two Seattle-based companies will cross promote each other’s products and services while offering active athletes the chance to win and attend a six-day glacial mountaineering course.

“Mountain Madness is one of the leading mountain guide groups worldwide,” said Tim Moxey of nuun. “They understand the importance hydration plays in delivering a peak performance before, during and after a rigorous climb. We’re glad to team up and provide their clients nuun tablets and offer our fans the chance to attend one of their awesome courses.”

Mark Gunlogson, president of Mountain Madness added, “We provide the education and training to help you define your climbing goals and create a plan to get you there. nuun provides a great product to be sure you have the proper hydration to propel you up the mountain. This is a great alliance of companies.”

As part of the venture, nuun will supply Mountain Madness guides its nuun tablets, which turn every water source into optimal, balanced hydration with essential electrolytes. nuun will also provide single-serve samples for Mountain Madness to distribute to their clients after climbs and training courses. Plus, Mountain Madness customers will receive an ongoing 25% discount on nuun products until December 31, 2009.

From now until July 27, 2009, both companies will promote the chance to win a spot in Mountain Madness’s six-day glacial mountaineering course scheduled from August 30 to September 4, 2009. Climbing enthusiasts can enter to win this course priced at $1,195 on nuun’s website and at partnering retail locations including Second Ascent, Feathered Friends and MSR. The winner will also receive gear from Helly Hansen and MSR. The winning entry will be chosen from online and in-store entries on July 31, 2009.
The Glacier Mountaineering Course is set in a spectacular environment in the North Cascades where active glaciers, volcanic peaks, and breathtaking views create the ideal learning environment for climbers. With at five-to-one, client-to-guide ratio, it is designed for beginners aspiring to learn the fundamental skills of snow, ice, glacier, in-depth crevasse rescue, and rock climbing techniques. A summit attempt at the end of the course gives students the chance to put their newly developed skills to the test. The final day is reserved as a backup summit day or as a chance to learn basic rock climbing techniques at the scenic Mt. Erie located near the San Juan Islands.
The goal of the training is to develop safe, self-reliant alpine climbers ready to climb locally or in the greater ranges of the world. This course is truly an excellent foundation for any climber seeking independence in the alpine arena. No previous climbing experience necessary.
