BOULDER, COLO. (June 29, 2009) Songwriters use lyrics and music to inspire hope, to empower the masses, or to pay honor to those who have passed. To honor the life of Sean Patrick, founder of the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, St. George, Utah based singer-songwriter Misty Murphy’s soon-to-be-released album, “Float,” includes her latest single, “Sean’s Song.” Murphy wrote the song shortly after Ms. Patrick’s passing in January 2009 from complications related to ovarian cancer. The album is set to debut later this summer; Sean’s Song can currently be downloaded from www.mistymurphy.com, and Murphy asks a donation of $1 for the HERA Foundation.

The inspiration for the song, Murphy says, came from Patrick’s contagious energy. “She was always happy and enthusiastic. Her positive, loving spirit is ever-present,” says Murphy. She sings of this spirit in her lyrics: “Listen carefully to your heart, do you hear a song? She loved so gently/she lived so fiercely/then the wind took her away. /Dig deep into your soul is she hiding there? /No she’s still here…she’s with you now/always near you now/ she’s the air that you breathe.”

“The HERA Foundation is moved by the beautiful manner in which Misty is honoring Sean’s spirit,” says Maile Buker, HERA’s board president. “It’s the perfect way for us to keep the inspiration that Sean brought into our lives alive in our hearts.”

Murphy has been involved with the HERA Foundation since 2006, when she played at the HERA Climb4Life Las Vegas. Since then, she has played at two Climb4Life Utah events in Salt Lake City and at the Cactus Cup in Las Vegas in 2008, which was also a benefit for HERA.

Johns Hopkins University reports that 1 in 57 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year. With early detection, more than 90 percent will survive. Currently, only 24 percent of ovarian cancer is caught early. 1
