Seattle, WA — The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) is hosting an event Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the Seattle area at the REI Flagship Store (222 Yale Avenue N) from 4:30-7 p.m. to provide an opportunity for networking and education on how to build and refine negotiation and persuasive speaking skills. The event entitled, Persuasive Communications and Negotiations, will be led by Matti Neustadt Storie, an associate on the Intellectual Property practice group with Stoel Rives in Portland, Oregon, where she represents sporting goods and apparel manufacturers on trademark and copyright protection, franchising and licensing.

“Negotiation and persuasive communication can be intimidating and is at the core of day-to-day business for most of us,” said Sally Grimes, executive director of the OIWC. “We’re thrilled to offer our Seattle area members and women outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to network and build relationships around similar interests, but also to learn from each other. In the current economy, improving our communication skills can not only prove to be beneficial and effective but can also influence outcomes and desired results.”

The OIWC event will open and close with networking sessions and offer leadership, as well as insight into the world of negotiating and persuasive communications. Matti Neustadt Storie will describe her experience as an Attorney for sporting goods and apparel manufacturing clients, providing steps to follow when negotiating and how to build proper persuasive speaking skills. An open question and answer period will wrap-up the evening’s schedule with Matti addressing and helping to “solve” real-day work and life situations offered by the audience where negotiation or persuasion is needed.

Grimes added, “The OIWC appreciates the local sponsors, as without their participation, this event would not be possible. Thank you Filson, Outdoor Research, Moving Comfort, REI, ExOfficio, Cascade Designs and Schoeller.”

Discover how to build and refine negotiation and persuasive communication skills alongside other women outdoor enthusiasts in the area. The event is free for OIWC members and $20 for non-members. To register or to become an OIWC member, visit www.oiwc.org.
