NÜWA gets Tough on the Competition with NÜHYDE Abrasion Resistant Finish

Industry News Release Written By: Larry Harrison for Nuwa Textiles

Irvine, CA –  Nüwa Textiles announces completion of testing and development of a patent pending process for textiles that increases abrasion resistance by over 450% compared to conventional polyurethane(PU) coatings.  The process, known as NüHyde, fuses a protective layer into the yarns of the fabric, creating a barrier that does not compromise the tear and tensile strength of the fabric.

NüHyde is specially formulated for heavy-duty, performance designs, requiring high abrasion resistance and strength. It is ideal for luggage, backpacks and the wear areas of garments. Company President Michael Shih explains that, “wear from abrasion is one of the leading causes of product failure in bags and luggage.”

Shih continued, remarking on the importance of testing, “In the competitive textile market, breakthroughs like NüHyde must be thoroughly tested in the laboratory to make sure they deliver as promised.”

The process was tested by the independent lab SGS using a 1,000 gram Taber wheel and resulted in an increase from 1,200 cycles for a two-times polyurethane coating to 5,600 cycles for NüHyde. Standard polyurethane coating can only stand 1,200 cycles on the wheel. NüHyde lasted for 5,600 cycles.  The test applies a calibrated weight to an abrasive disc as it turns on a fabric sample. The number of cycles, or complete rotations, gives an indication of how well the fabric will wear in real life.

Abrasion is the enemy of the bag on the carousel, the pack being hauled across a rock face, and the daypack thrown across a room while full of books. Nüwa Textiles has come up with solution to these dilemmas. NüHyde is the answer for greater durability for textile products.

NüHyde coatings exceed the life span of most standard competitor’s products by nearly threefold. NüHyde is specially formulated for heavy-duty performance designs requiring high abrasion resistance and strength. This fabric coating will redefine durability in outdoor sports and industrial manufacturing products.
