Bend, Ore., December 3, 2008 – The Conservation Alliance Breakfast at the January 2009 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market will feature guest speaker Steven Kazlowski, a wildlife photographer who has accumulated a comprehensive and unparalleled portfolio of polar bears in the wild. His work documents the impact global warming is having on polar bear habitat. The breakfast, which is open to the public, is Friday, January 23, 7:00-9:00 AM at The Marriott in Salt Lake City.

During his presentation, Kazlowski will share his stunning images and observations, talk about the challenges and thrill of photographing in the Arctic, and discuss what every citizen can do to make a difference for polar bear habitat. Much of the presentation will be based on Kazlowski’s new book of photographs titled The Last Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a Warming World, copies of which he will sell and sign after his presentation.

“The Polar bear is global warming’s canary in the coal mine,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance. “We’re fortunate that Steven Kazlowski has taken the time to document these special animals in the wild, and that he will share his work with us.”

Kazlowski is the only wildlife photographer who has extensively photographed the Alaskan polar bear and its critical Arctic coastal habitat, an area rapidly being affected by climate change. He is known within the photography community for his skills of observation and his determination to capture an image even in extreme weather conditions.

Kazlowski’s photographs have been featured in Sierra, Audubon, Backpacker, Canadian National Geographic, National Geographic For Kids, National Wildlife, and TIME magazines, and he has published several books including Alaska’s Bears of the North, Alaska’s Wildlife of the North, and Alaska Wildlife Impressions.

In addition to Kazlowski’s talk, The Conservation Alliance Breakfast will feature an update on recent Alliance grantees and conservation successes funded by the Alliance, as well as an update on The Conservation Alliance Legacy Fund.

The Conservation Alliance Breakfast is open to the public. For complete information, see http://conservationalliance.com/articles.
