SNEWS® Live: Conservation Next is a new web-based network tasked to bring together grassroots activists who aim to save the natural settings they love most. It allows people to demonstrate their support for the environment and become actively involved.

Announced at the bi-annual breakfast meeting of the Conservation Alliance at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Conservation Next was inspired by the dynamic enthusiasm of a passionate past speaker.

In January 2007, Conservation Alliance breakfast speaker and naturalist poet Terry Tempest Williams issued a challenge to the young people assembled there. "What might a different power look like?" she asked. "We encourage you to gather. Who will take the lead? "

A few outdoor professionals under the age of 40 put their heads together and came up with an idea to meet Williams' challenge. Conservation Next intends to unite environmental activists of all ages called "Nexters" to take a leading role in advancing the conservation movement forward.

SNEWS® Live connected with two of the group's co-founders to bring you this report.
