Sales & Marketing Assistant for Backpacker and SNEWS

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Backpacker magazine and its sister trade publication, SNEWS, are looking to hire a sales and marketing assistant, preferably with knowledge of the magazine publishing industry.  Located in Boulder, CO, the position is full-time, starting immediately and will report to the Marketing Director.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Sales, Marketing and Event Support

­    Assist in all aspects of the marketing chain – brand development, advertising, events, sponsorships, non-profit relationships, research and public relations

­    In collaboration with national sales representatives, responsible for organizing, editing, and proofing sales materials, marketing proposals and PowerPoint presentations, as well as interpreting research for client proposals

­    Write, execute and produce in-book advertorials, event invitations and advertising sell pieces

­    Create and update sales materials including media kits (print and online), various sell sheets and strategic sales presentations

­    Contribute to the development, organization and execution of consumer, trade and client entertaining events

­    Participate in client and agency meetings, sales calls and creative brainstorming sessions that comprehensively explain Backpacker’s marketing programs

­    Maintain accurate work orders, merchandising logs, status reports, budgets, and production schedules for all marketing projects

­    Responsible for delivering required materials accurately and in a timely manner so that all deadlines and budgets are met

 

Online Support

­    Work with Online Marketing Manager with the implementation and fulfillment of advertising-based online campaigns on Backpacker.com

­    Assist in fulfilling and executing online client email blasts, custom marketing microsites, online sweepstakes and online research

 

Trade Show Support

­    Manage trade show planning as needed, including coordinating sales meetings, hotel rooms, flights, tradeshow logistics, set-up and tear down

­    Schedule and coordinate trade show appointments, dinners and special events

­    Coordinate with all tradeshow vendors


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extremely organized and highly-detail oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong initiative and follow-through
  • Candidate must be professional, articulate, and polished; presentation skills is a necessity
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-driven environment
  • Requires minimal supervision
  • Creative thinker in all aspects of work
  • Willingness to contribute at all levels as needed

When the current owners of Makoto USA saw the game that would become Makoto at an arcade in 2002, they immediately realized its potential to provide both physical and mental fitness for anyone, from athletes to the elderly to folks in rehab. The SNEWS® team first saw a Makoto at the Health & Fitness Business show in Denver several years ago and, after playing it (over and over, we must admit), we had to get one for the office.
