FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOB™ Trailers Extend Opportunities for Bicycle Commuting as Gas Prices Persuade Consumers to Consider Alternative Transportation

BOISE, ID (July 24, 2008) – With fuel prices averaging four-plus dollars a gallon, Americans are seeking the most convenient and cost-effective alternatives to the gas-powered transportation methods that have become a societal mainstay. While some have their sights set on the upcoming solar-paneled Prius or the carpool lane, others have opted to abandon the pump altogether and hop on a bike. But is the human-powered commute a practical one?

According to the experienced staff at BOB Trailers, commuting by bicycle is both a realistic and reliable transportation alternative – if you’re well-prepared. The Boise, ID-based manufacturer of the popular YAK and IBEX single-wheel bicycle cargo trailers has been providing practical tools to the cycling consumer for nearly 15 years in an effort to make touring and commuting by bike more convenient.

“With the rise in gas prices, we have experienced a significant increase in inquiries regarding our bicycle cargo trailer products,” said Brent Jordan, customer service supervisor for BOB. “People seem to be willing to pass up the luxury of their cars in an effort to save money.”

BOB trailers can improve the bike’s functionality for commuting by providing a storage spot for up to 70 pounds of cargo in an adaptable, open frame design.

A solution to bike commuting naysayers’ complaints about inconvenience, the trailers can store everything from a change of clothes and toiletries – keeping the workweek transformation from cyclist to business casual seamless – to groceries, laundry, or even lunch to go. For longer trips or adventure travels, the trailer can additionally accommodate camping gear, trail tools and other supplies.

Easily attachable to virtually any bike’s rear wheel hub, the trailers track smoothly behind, and offer a low, stable center of gravity for improved performance and aerodynamics. Unlike panniers, even when the trailers are being used to capacity, they effectively keep weight off of the bicycle to maintain ideal handling.

The YAK , BOB’s original trailer model, is ideal for the everyday city-street commute, and the versatile IBEX, which offers a rugged, fully-adjustable suspension system, can additionally handle anything from uneven pavement to dirt trails and riverbeds with ease. MSRP: $299 (YAK); $369 (IBEX)

For cycling trips made on less-than-fair-weather days, YAK and IBEX Plus models can keep cargo protected from unruly elements, thanks to the included BOB Dry Sak– an independent, completely waterproof accessory that attaches to the trailer frame. Tools and a flat repair kit can also be stored in the trailer to help keep riders prepared for the unexpected. MSRP for YAK and IBEX Plus: $329 & $399, respectively.

Look for BOB trailers, strollers and accessories in sporting goods stores and baby stores nationwide. BOB formed in 1994 as one of the first manufacturers of single-wheeled bicycle cargo trailers. As the founders of the company became fathers, they designed and developed the first Sport Utility Stroller in 1998. For more information, visit the website at www.bobgear.com.
