SNEWS® Live: Reduce what you can; offset what you can't. For a few years now, carbon offsets have been the salve applied by individuals and institutions to -- at least on the books -- reduce their carbon footprint. Despite the good intentions, they're still spewing forth carbon emissions by the truckload. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are widely believed to be the leading cause of climate change. If there are emissions you simply can't avoid, the idea is to pay a carbon offset company and -- voila! -- you've reduced the size of your carbon footprint. It's the environmental version of a priest forgiving daily sins in the confessional.

At last count, there are dozens of offset providers to choose from. How do you know which ones are the most worthwhile, and the best investment of your time and money?

SNEWS® Live connected with a few industry professionals to get their thoughts. Here's what they had to say.
