Did you hear?...Backpacker magazine wins National Magazine Award for General Excellence

Backpacker (owned by Active Interest Media which also now owns SNEWS®) has won a 2008 National Magazine Award for General Excellence, the American Society of Magazine Editors announced May 1 during an award ceremony in New York City. The award honors "the effectiveness with which writing, reporting, editing and design all come together to command readers' attention and fulfill the magazine's unique editorial mission." Backpacker won the top award in the 250,000 to 500,000 circulation category. The other nominees were New York, W, Wondertime and Cookie. This is Backpacker's second National Magazine Award. In 2006, Backpacker won "Best Magazine Section" for its Basecamp section. The magazine was also previously nominated in two other categories, the 2006 General Excellence category and the 2007 Single-Topic Issue category.
