Job Title: Java Developer
Reports To: Manager of Web Systems
Location: Ventura, CA
General Summary
In conjunction with the Manager of Web Systems, the Java Developer will work on the development and implementation of web centric technology to support the Company's worldwide web based applications(s).
Essential Job Functions
o Create, update, test and manage code on all Web sites (Internet, Extranets, etc) as needed.
o Java/JSP
o MySQL
o JavaScript
o HTML/CSS
o Analyze and solve technical issues impacting Web site performance.
o Manage scheduled code releases
o Work with multi-department team members to run product releases on applicable Web sites.
Other Job Functions
o Research and recommend improvements to existing code base and web systems.
o Research and evaluate emerging technologies and how they might be applicable to current and future projects.
Physical Requirements
o Able to move and install servers into rack spaces as needed.
o Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
o Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
o Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
o Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
Minimum Job Qualifications
o College Degree or equivalent experience required
o 5-6 years professional Web production experience.
o Proficient knowledge of the Linux environment.
o Expert knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
o 2+ year(s) experience programming JSP and Java.
o Proficient knowledge of SQL and relational database structures.
o Basic understanding of networks.
o Proficient with SSH command line use.
o Experienced with release control software such as RSYNC.
o Experience operating within a version controlled environment such as CVS.
o Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time/within budget
o Able to comprehend other Web-centric programming languages such as PERL, PHP, etc for troubleshooting.
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills
o Able to work in a high pressure multi-department team environment
o Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
Preferred Job Qualifications
o Experience with PHP a plus.
o Experience shell programming within Linux a plus.
o Experience with content management systems a plus.
o Experience finding and implementing Open Source solutions a plus
o Familiarity with RUP or other development processes a plus
o Strong interest in environmental issues and outdoor activities preferred
