SNEWS® Live: One of the great names in climbing history lives on in John Harlin III. The tragic death of his father, John Harlin II, in 1966 on the Eiger, a mountain in the Alps of Switzerland, set in motion a legacy of mountaineering that continues to inspire the high-altitude aspirations of each new generation of climbers.

Both as an alpinist and a journalist, Harlin carries on the family tradition through the exploration of mountain regions and as the editor of the American Alpine Journal. He recently received the American Alpine Club Literary Award for among other things his 2007 memoir, "The Eiger Obsession: Facing the Mountain that Killed My Father."

During the AAC annual meeting in Golden, Colo., Harlin met with SNEWS® Live to talk about his life in climbing.
