Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2009: SNEWS BOB Awards
Feb 13, 2009 A company’s booth reflects its personality and its core values, while also serving the needs of its customers. Just as important as the showcase for new gear and product, a trade show also shows off the efforts of many exhibitors to upgrade, redesign and otherwise rethink their booth footprints, constructions and presentations. We at SNEWS® like to acknowledge those efforts. We are proud to present the winners of the ORWM 2009 SNEWS Best of Booths (BOB) Awards, in recognition of the most successful of these endeavors. Outdoor Retailer Winter Market '07: SNEWS® BOB Awards
Feb 5, 2007 If there was one word to sum up the trend of Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2007's booth designs, it was SUSTAINABILITY. There is no question that being green is both cool and the right thing to do, and that movement seemed to stimulate the addition of a bevy of new booths at the show. Never before has the SNEWS® crew seen so many companies utilizing green booth materials. While all the new booths were a welcome surprise, it made it more difficult than ever to come up with the latest round of coveted SNEWS® BOB Awards. Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2010 -- understanding the numbers
May 8, 2009 SNEWS® has been fielding calls from folks in recent weeks commenting about price increases in booth space at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, as well as earlier contract deadlines this year. Why, especially in this economy, is Outdoor Retailer expecting more money and asking for it earlier, we kept hearing. A number who spoke with us speculated that the "dramatic" price increase might be because of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) getting more money from Outdoor Retailer. Since it was starting to sound a bit like a conspiracy theory, we pulled current and past exhibitor contracts, went through past interview notes and reviewed story archives to get to the root of the matter... Jun 3, 2009 With retail still reeling from economic blows in the last 18 months -- both fitness and otherwise -- the networking, education and exhibitors at the 2009 Health & Fitness Business Expo could supply an infusion of energy prior to the business season. Show management won't deny the show is going to be smaller, but key exhibitors will be in attendance, and there seems to be more small companies, including wellness and accessories, ready to take their places on the aisles. May 27, 2009 On Wednesday, July 22, at 7 p.m., a group of outdoor industry rugby players, still unable to come to grips with diminished fitness and speed, have banded together in an attempt to relive former glories against a Salt Lake City “Old Boys” team in a friendly rugby match. The match will be held at Fort Douglas Field -- though in rugby parlance, we prefer to call it a pitch, not a field. Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all Trade Show News articles |

Makoto Xergame Jun 29, 2009 When the current owners of Makoto USA saw the game that would become Makoto at an arcade in 2002, they immediately realized its potential to provide both physical and mental fitness for anyone, from athletes to the elderly to folks in rehab. The SNEWS® team first saw a Makoto at the Health & Fitness Business show in Denver several years ago and, after playing it (over and over, we must admit), we had to get one for the office. |

Coleman LED Quad Lantern Jun 22, 2009 Pardon the pun, but Coleman's LED Quad Lantern presents one of the brightest ideas we've seen when it comes to lighting. It's unique because the body of the lantern has four detachable panels, each of which has six 5 mm, white LED lights. We tested the lantern during several car-camping trips and found that it was really handy when we had several people sharing a campsite. |

Teva Sunkosi 2 water shoe Jun 15, 2009 As a concept, water shoes are a fine idea. But we've suffered painful scrapes and blisters from poorly designed amphibious footwear, and frowned over many models that didn't dry as quickly as advertised. But Teva's Sunkosi 2 performed well, and proved to be exceptionally comfortable during numerous paddling trips, including an 18-day rafting journey down the Grand Canyon. Our testers said these shoes were not only easy on the feet, but they were also some of the most durable water shoes they've worn. |
