Health & Fitness Business ’09: What’s shaking in vibration and other non-traditional gear
Sep 2, 2009 Now that we told you about new stuff and highlights in traditional equipment from the Aug. 6-7 Health & Fitness Business Show in a series of stories, we don’t want you to miss all the other product that sometimes hides in 10-x-10s. The vibration-training category has been shaking up a whole lot of product, and in between the normal treadmills, home gyms, weight plates, ellipticals, yoga mats and stability balls, there was a smattering of other equipment and product that, depending on your opinion, was also worth looking at. Health & Fitness Business ’09: Accessories -- some old, some new, some just tweaked
Aug 31, 2009 A smaller show meant three things when it came to accessory exhibitors: Fewer accessory brands made the trek to the Health & Fitness Business Show; if they did, they pared back on booth size; and just like with equipment brands, for the most part, it wasn’t the year to reveal everything you had in your deck of innovation. That’s not to say there weren’t a few highlights and new products to pique the interest. Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all Health & Fitness Business articles |

Health & Fitness Business '09: Strength category focuses on light lifting in down economy
Aug 24, 2009 The strength category at this summer’s Health & Fitness Business Show, Aug. 6-7 in Denver, was looking far leaner than its normally bulked-up offering. Consumer cutbacks on spending resulted in fewer strength companies even showing up to the trade show with a booth, and those that did featured mostly minor tweaks and modifications to existing themes – a theme that carried throughout the show in all categories. Plus, offerings of simpler systems (with lower prices) were beefed up. Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all Health & Fitness Business articles |

Health & Fitness Business '09: Cardio sticks mostly to freshening up, but still takes steps forward
Aug 17, 2009 With the economy still trying to rev up again, this wasn't the year for big news and innovative introductions from cardio manufacturers. Add to the economic hiccup a smaller Health & Fitness Business Show, some extra inventory still lingering here and there, and cautious buyers wary of consumer buying. What that means is although cardio companies still eked the category forward at the Aug. 6-7 show in Denver, it was mostly with conservative offerings of design tweaks, add-ons and updates. IHRSA 2010: Smaller show welcomes unexpectedly upbeat mood
Mar 17, 2010 The 2010 IHRSA show, albeit a touch smaller, seemed to reveal more energy and more of an upbeat mood than last year. No one product or company stole the show…but perhaps that’s not what the industry needed this year. SNEWS has more. Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all IHRSA articles |

IHRSA '09 hosts product previews, prototypes, program launches
Mar 30, 2009 Despite some caution on both sides of the aisles, the IHRSA show with its focus on the commercial side of the fitness business managed to show off some new equipment, launch or update a few programs, and showcase some prototype gear. But, like last year, new product releases weren't the theme of the annual show March 16-19 in San Francisco, but rather a bit of an afterthought for many in a year of breath-holding about where the economy will head. ispo show's fitness segment continues positive transition, still slower than rest of show
Feb 13, 2009 Certainly, times changed in the fitness hall of the sprawling ispo sporting goods trade show in Munich, Germany. First, it's now all fitness, all the time: No soccer balls, blow-up pool toys, or trophy vendors. Second, although certainly not as thumping with excitement as the rest of the show's nearly 2 million square feet in 16 halls, fitness ispo has grown up. Over the last five years, SNEWS® has seen fewer antiquated, butt-jiggling vibrating belt machines and other such fitness garbage. Hoorah on that front. Feb 19, 2010 The outdoor halls at the winter ispo show may be more conservative and business-like than the likes of board sports, but they get their business done. Step aside, boys -- women stake a claim to product innovation over the last 25 years
Sep 11, 2009 The road traveled by woman and the companies making products for them in the last 25 years has been long and rock-strewn, including a lengthy period of downsized men's items in various shades of pink, but today the women's market is strong and many well-researched products are designed specifically to fit a woman's anatomy and engineered to deliver performance. Those early efforts and dedication help lay the foundation that today's booming sales of women's products now rests on. Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all Misc Outdoor articles |

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market '09: The new, the cool, the sometimes quirky, but always interesting
Aug 31, 2009 In trade shows, as sometimes also in life, the small and offbeat often have the power to make a person stop and take that second look. We've done our share of about-faces as we scurried down trade show aisles trying to see everything, hoping to glimpse a product that makes us come to a screeching halt, exclaiming, "Wow, I've never seen anything like that before." The recent Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show didn't disappoint. We also saw many of these items the week prior at the OutDoor show in Germany. Outdoor Retailer Summer Market '09: Technical outerwear and performance apparel trend highlights
Aug 24, 2009 As the SNEWS® editors were roaming the halls of Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, various themes continued to prevail in technical and performance apparel: ultra-lightweight, bike commuting, trail running and the continuing expansion of the women's skort. In outerwear, how light can you go? Companies are pushing the envelope to find out, emphasizing light and fast fabrics and pared-down hardware as evidenced at Patagonia, Outdoor Research and Mammut, to name a few. It all sounds good, but at what point will durability be sacrificed -- only real-world testing will bear witness. Outdoor Retailer Summer Market '09: Camping and backpacking tent and sleeping bag trends
Aug 21, 2009 Light and fast -- perhaps the two most ubiquitous and sought after words in the outdoor industry -- is obviously a desirable concept for camping and backpacking. But too often those words often also mean minimalist and, well, not very comfy. This year's Outdoor Retailer Summer Market showed us that tents and sleeping bags can now be "light and fast," while also maintaining some semblance of comfort -- or "livability," to use the popular industry term. Outdoor Retailer Summer Market ’09: Paddlesports accessory trends from paddles to PFDs
Aug 19, 2009 As we noted in our product trends story on Aug. 17, 2009, most of the talk at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market was about the announcement of a new paddle show. But that didn’t mean the equipment and gear companies weren’t showing off their wares. In our first paddlesports trends story on Aug. 17 we covered boats including kayaks of all kinds and canoes, as well as paddleboards. Today, we take a look at trends in all the other stuff a paddler needs from paddles and PFDs to apparel and accessories. Viva Las Vegas: Like Elvis, SIA has left the building
Feb 9, 2009 For the past 37 years, the SIA SnowSports Show was on a roll in Las Vegas. But in 2010, the show will cash in its chips and try its luck in Denver, Colo. Not surprisingly, the big question on everyone's mind -- right after the economy -- was whether SIA '09 would be a blowout farewell party or a sparsely attended funereal affair. As it turned out, the mood at the recently concluded show (held January 24-27 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center) was mostly upbeat. Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all SIA articles |
