Jun 15, 2009 The SNEWS® Mini Survey that ended June 15, 2009 asked, “What do you feel most motivates your customers to buy from your store?” We asked retailers to select from a list of 20 categories the top five motivating factors they believed drove customers to buy from them and not elsewhere. We were happy to see that 85 percent chose “customer service.” Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all SNEWS - Other articles |

Apr 24, 2009 Responses to the 2009 SNEWS Fitness Retailer Survey are multiplying quickly and we know the industry will again learn something from what its retailers say. 2008 SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey: Full results for your eager eyes!
Jun 30, 2008 It seems like yesterday we had to call and harass retailers to get them to belly up to the SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey bar to share their opinions. That is indeed so, well, yesterday. In this, our sixth-annual opportunity for retailers to share what they think about their manufacturers, about the products and about the industry and trends, we were nearly shoved off our seats as retailers poured into the website to tell us what they thought. You think we're kidding? Not only did we have respondents nearly standing in line to answer (if there were a virtual line) from the first day we sent out an email announcing the survey's gates had swung open, we had retailers who weren't even on our rather extensive email list opt in and share opinions. And, this year, so eager were our friends north of the border to be counted that we decided, after consulting with a few industry long-timers, that key Canadian specialty folks needed to be let in too. That said, how was the response? We topped last year's numbers by a whopping 20 percent, easily sliding over a 50-percent response rate. 2007 Annual SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey
Jul 2, 2007 Celebrating an astounding five years, the SNEWS® Retailer Survey really lit its candles this year by bringing in a remarkable 45 percent return rate of the specialty dealers contacted. When nearly half of all the retailers contacted want to take the time to tell you what they think, we know these are thoughts that they really want to share and need to be aired. Since it is the only independent survey that isn’t in any way connected to, commissioned by, done by or influenced in any way by a manufacturer, the retailers speak their minds. And we listen. We hope you do too, since we have raked in thoughts and votes from stores that represent more than 600 doors and several hundred millions of dollars in sales, cumulatively. Remember, only one survey (and one vote) is allowed per store brand, whether it is one store, a retailer with a dozen doors, or more. Remember too that these votes are not influenced by SNEWS® or GearTrends® by offering lists of names from which retailers choose; rather, we ask a question and let the respondent write-in his or her vote. If you want to see the rest of the story, as they say, that is housed on SNEWS® (www.snewsnet.com/surveys), and is open to subscribers with password (Qualified retail staff members, not owners or executives, do have access to a free, limited-access subscription. Just go to www.snewsnet.com/subscribe to find out more). Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all SNEWS Survey - Fitness Retailer articles |

2006 Annual SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey
Jun 30, 2006 Retailers aren't afraid to tell us what they think, and we're not afraid to tell it like they say. Hard to imagine this is the fourth SNEWS® Fitness Retailer Survey. More and more, we hear from manufacturers dying to get on or move up a particular list in our survey—or get the heck off a particular list (and you know which one we mean). The beauty of this survey is, one, it’s done anonymously and retailers trust us: We won’t tell a soul who said what, ever, promise, cross our hearts. Two, we are independent (no suppliers, no trade show organizers, no associations scanning results), so retailers know they can tell the truth and won’t have a supplier bite them in the back for it. And, three, it helps the entire industry know where we stand and what needs to improve. As in past years, we once again had huge participation from retailers we contacted and asked to participate by letter, email and telephone starting in April. 2001 SNEWS Subscriber Survey: Which Tradeshow Are You Attending?
Nov 30, 2001 Our 2001 tradeshow-attendance survey results are in, and we thank everyone for their responses. The below results represent 64 individual companies – 33 exhibitors and 31 retailers. While we received multiple responses from many companies, we chose to include only one response from the most senior member of the management or buying team because we felt that best represented the company position and not just an individual preference. Our retailer response represents both large specialty chains and stores with multiple locations, as well as single store operations, together totaling over 150 storefronts. Interestingly, an significant number of retailers and manufacturers told us by phone and email they didn't take the survey because they still didn't know which show, if any, they were going to attend. Indicative of the overall feeling in the industry? We believe so as the undecided contingent will apparently wait until the very last minute before making an attendance decision. Makoto Xergame Jun 29, 2009 When the current owners of Makoto USA saw the game that would become Makoto at an arcade in 2002, they immediately realized its potential to provide both physical and mental fitness for anyone, from athletes to the elderly to folks in rehab. The SNEWS® team first saw a Makoto at the Health & Fitness Business show in Denver several years ago and, after playing it (over and over, we must admit), we had to get one for the office. |

Coleman LED Quad Lantern Jun 22, 2009 Pardon the pun, but Coleman's LED Quad Lantern presents one of the brightest ideas we've seen when it comes to lighting. It's unique because the body of the lantern has four detachable panels, each of which has six 5 mm, white LED lights. We tested the lantern during several car-camping trips and found that it was really handy when we had several people sharing a campsite. |

Teva Sunkosi 2 water shoe Jun 15, 2009 As a concept, water shoes are a fine idea. But we've suffered painful scrapes and blisters from poorly designed amphibious footwear, and frowned over many models that didn't dry as quickly as advertised. But Teva's Sunkosi 2 performed well, and proved to be exceptionally comfortable during numerous paddling trips, including an 18-day rafting journey down the Grand Canyon. Our testers said these shoes were not only easy on the feet, but they were also some of the most durable water shoes they've worn. |
